As a homeowner, it's very important that you make sure anybody you hire to come into your home to perform work is licensed, bonded and insured.  This protects you, your property and belongings, and it also protects the employees of the firm you hire, in case of injury while working.  You should ask anybody you hire to provide proof of insurance and, for extra protection, have them show you their proof of Workman's Comp insurance.  If they cannot produce these documents, you should question their safety record and business practices.
